Penile Implant

What is a Penile Implant?

A penile implant is a treatment method used in men experiencing erectile dysfunction (sexual dysfunction). In this surgical intervention, an erection is achieved by inserting a special device into the penis. Penile implants may be considered when other treatment methods are ineffective.

Types of Penile Implants

• Hydraulic Implant

A hydraulic penile implant includes a pump that provides erection and a valve that controls this pump. This implant is used to mimic a natural erection. Before sexual activity, the pump is squeezed, and the valve is opened to inflate the cylinders in the penis.

• Three-Piece Implant

A three-piece penile implant consists of a pump placed next to the testicles, cylinders inserted into the penis, and a reservoir. This implant provides a more natural erection compared to other types of implants.

• Two-Piece Implant

A two-piece penile implant consists of cylinders inserted into the penis and a pump placed in the testis area. This implant is easier to use and has fewer mechanical parts.

Penile Implant Surgery and Recovery

Penile implant surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. The patient's recovery period typically completes within a few weeks after the operation. The return to sexual activity may vary depending on the doctor's recommendations.

Although penile implant surgery is generally safe, like any surgical intervention, it carries certain risks. Side effects such as infection, device malfunction, and pain are rare complications.
